Dusty Strings Jam, 2012/08/12

I just got back from the old-time jam at Dusty Strings, and before I forget I’d like to list as many of the tunes we played there as I can remember (for the first half hour) or hear the names of on the recording. The recorder freaked out and got corrupted after the first half hour, so I don’t have recordings for any of those, and I’m missing some of the later ones as well. Any wrong titles here are probably my own mistake:

  • Old Joe Clark
  • Buffalo Gals
  • Turkey in the Straw
  • Soldier’s Joy
  • Bile Them Cabbage Down
  • Tennessee Waltz
  • Shortnin’ Bread
  • Liberty
  • … maybe some others I’ve forgotten …
  • Me and My Fiddle (dl)
  • Possum’s Tail is Bare (dl)
  • Little Rabbit, Where’s Your Mama? (dl)
  • Paddy on the Handcar (dl)
  • Arkansas Traveller (dl)
  • Matt’s Polka (?) (dl)
  • Whiskey Before Breakfast (dl)
  • Marmaduke’s Hornpipe (dl)
  • You Are My Sunshine
  • Emma’s Waltz (Scandanavian) (dl)
  • Oh, Suzanna (dl)
  • Flame Point (Stuart Williams) (dl)
  • Blackberry Blossom (dl)
  • Sandy Boys (dl)
  • Westphalia Waltz (dl)
  • Sleeping Giant Two-Step
  • Moon and Seven Stars (dl)
  • Come Home With Girls in the Morning (dl)
  • Pretty Little Shoes
  • Seamus O’Brien
  • The Merry Blacksmith (dl)
  • Fisher’s Hornpipe (dl)

Some things I’d like to remember for Slower Than Dirt Jams: have guitar chords available if possible, waltzes tend to be slow and beginner-friendly (but maybe don’t work so well for clawhammer players), encourage backup players to show up.

There was talk of assembling a list of common tunes to play at the Dusty Strings jam, or at least tunes that would be likely to show up in the first half hour, which is for beginners. Between that and the Fiddle Hell list, we’ll probably end up having a pretty good list for Slower Than Dirt, too.
